Safari jackets

According to various style gurus, safari jackets, such as the one being sported by My Law above, are very much on style for the forthcoming summer.  I find this difficult to believe.  On the one hand out of fear because it might signal the complete rehabilitation of the Roger Moore beige safari suit look so much beloved by Alan Partridge, and on the other because it strikes me as a garment that scores poorly in terms of function.

Whilst it looks great, on a hot summer's day the choice between carrying a bag or wearing a jacket leads straight towards the former rather than the latter.  If in a work or formal situation, where a jacket is required, surely more traditional styles will prevail. It will be interesting to see what happens...
